Superheated water in the microwave oven

Do you usually use your microwave oven to heat water, for instance to prepare a cup of tea? If you do and you had no accident yet, you are pushing your luck.
Take a look at what can happen in the video below. AND DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME, SERIOUSLY.
This is due to the water being in a superheated state, or in other words, having a temperature larger than its boiling temperature. The superheated state is unstable, and it can very rapidly turn into liquid at the boiling point, plus a substantial quantity of vapour.
